Black Widow is a Grand Slam, October 18, 2011 By This review is from: Hi-Seas Black Widow Co-Polymer Line (Sports) I didn't buy this item from Amazon but I have fished with it. I first recieved the Hi-Seas Grand Slam brand of fishing lines as part of promotion for buying a fishing reel on another site. I had little faith in the line since it was a promotion but used it anyway. I was so impressed I decided to try their black widow brand. I bought the 12lb test and have caught a few striped bass in the 12-25lb range with ease and no breakage. I use a improved clinch knot and it very easy to tie, does not slip or break when tightening my knot. Only problem I had at first was wind knots but that might have been because I put on too much line, I'm not use to the thin diameter when compared to regular mono fishing lines. Because of the thinner diameter you can have a little more line on the spool than standard mono which is ofcourse thicker, but after cutting off about 10-15 yards wind knots were no longer a problem. The color camouflage sounds gimmicky but it actually works, and does not seem to compromise line-strength. You can choose between a black, red, or clear knot to fit your needs. The downside is that this line is quite thick, and you'll need a large reel and the right knots. The line "memory" is about average. I plan on buying another spool in a lighter weight for my smaller reels.
Respool After First Trip, July 2, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Hi-Seas Black Widow Co-Polymer Line (Sports) Got the 20# line a while back and finally spooled last week before trip. Line is real nice looking and managed to get about 450yds on my ABF90. Line seemed a little thinner than my usual 20# Ande Tournament and stretchy while spooling. Trolled a medium ballyhoo and hooked up on a average king mackerel of 37". Fought in fine, but I felt like the line could snap anytime. After releasing the fish, I inspected the line and noticed it was unusable after just one fish. My usual Ande line could handle a fish twice that big and not be deemed unusable. No thanks on a reorder.
