Good moderately priced unit, April 11, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Garmin echo 300c Dual-Beam Fishfinder (Electronics) Bought this unit to replace a Lowrance and try out the color scale type unit---It works well once you figure out which settings are the best for your type of fishing. Would recommend it for the color scale and clarity alone BUT it is advertised to show boat speed in the display. Only problem IS that you will have to fork out an additional $40 to get the sensor and install it. A little sly advertising there. I would recommend it if you can still get the $30 rebate. If not, it will cost you over $200. Not worth that much.

Perfect Size and Power for Kayak Fishing, June 21, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Garmin echo 300c Dual-Beam Fishfinder (Electronics) I looked at several similar models in various local stores but had not seen the Garmin Echo 300c in person. Based on very few reviews, and the product information from Garmin, I decided the Echo 300c was probably the best combination of compact design, bright color display, sonar technology, and price.
Display
The color display isn't the highest resolution you can get in a fish finder, but it is likely the highest resolution and brightest you can find for its price. I had no trouble seeing the display on a bright sunny day at 9000' in the mountains of Colorado where the sun is even brighter than usual because there is roughly 2 miles less atmosphere, and almost zero humidity blocking the light. (If you've been there, you know what I mean.)
Power Consumption
Since I am using this fish finder on a kayak, its power source will be a battery that cannot be recharged while I'm out (unless I rig up some kind of solar charger), so power draw was one of my... Read more

Fathers Day gift, June 26, 2012 This review is from: Garmin echo 300c Dual-Beam Fishfinder (Electronics) My husband was so excited to get this for Fathers day. I also purchased the protective cover plate and a flush mounting kit. What I should have ordered along with it was a speed sensor. It was the only thing that my husband was really worried about not having. We fish in the pacific ocean and and some fish finders won't work well in salt water. Hopefully this one will. I have not been out in the boat since the install as it is Salmon season here and the boys are going. They are landing the Salmon, so something is working!
